We hope to have you feel welcome and invite you to share in our worship and prayers today to the full extent possible. To make your visit comfortable we ask you to visit our Welcome Table in the Church Lobby, just to the right of the main Church doors as you enter the building. A member of our parish Hospitality Team will be there to greet you and to answer any questions you may have.
If you have recently moved into this area, or if you are looking to become members of St. John the Beloved Disciple Church, please mention that to the parish representative at the Welcome table, or approach one of our Parish Deacons or seek me directly, Fr. Rich. We will be glad to answer any questions you may have and address your needs.
Thank you for praying with us today.
Fr. Rich

Our parish has been part of this region of Jefferson county since 1861. Originally the parish was named St. John at the Latin Gate (St. John Lateran) after the Cathedral
Basilica of Rome, Italy. Today, our Parish is under the patronage of St. John the Beloved Disciple. This location is the third for our parish. The first, from1861-1954 was on West Rock Creek Road, adjacent to the parish Cemetery which was next to the original
Church. The parish relocated to a site about one-half mile north of its present location on Old Highway 21 in 1954 to provide a more visible and central location. The parish
remained on that site till 2011, when the new, present Church was completed at this site. The old property, which had served our parish for nearly 60 years was sold in 2015.
Today, St. John the Beloved Disciple Parish is composed of approximately 390 households with slightly less than 900 total members. Many of our parishioners and their families have been members here for generations. From the early days of the parish in the mid-19th Century till 2007, the parish also had a Catholic Grade School. That closed in 2007 due to declining enrollment. Today we have a PSR (Parish School of Religion) program with around 60 enrolled who attend public schools.
Our parish is an active and faith-filled community. We have spiritual opportunities and faith deepening programs available for parishioners, Bible Study, retreats and other opportunities. We also have an active St. Vincent de Paul Society dedicated to assisting the poor and the needy of our community. We are proud of our heritage and intend to actively witness to Jesus Christ today and in the future, through spiritual growth, enrichment and active service.
St. John Parish, first under the the title of St. John Lateran, and more recently, under the patronage of St. John the Beloved Disciple, was first established as a Mission Church in 1861. In 1869, it was raised to the status of a Parish. St. John the Beloved Disciple Parish has been a spiritual part of the Rock Creek/Shady Valley region for over 150 years.
Our parish is deeply rooted in Jefferson County with parishioners able to trace their family roots back for generations. Through their and now our prayers and presence we have maintained a constant Catholic Religious presence here and now with our new and beutifil faciltiies, intend to remain a strong and vibrant presence for many years and generations into the future.
If you will be moving from the Parish or have an addres or phone number change, we ask you to contact us so that our records are kept up to date.
